The plane taking off from Vancouver, Canada gave hope that airline pollutant emissions could end one day. The company designed the engine of the aircraft and worked in partnership with Harbor Air, which has a capacity of half a million passengers per year across Vancouver, Whisdollarser Ski Resort, nearby islands and coastal communities.

Civil aviation has become one of the fastest growing sources of carbon emissions, with people increasingly choosing airplanes. According to the European Environment Agency, 285 grams of CO2 is emitted per kilometer (mile) traveled by each passenger. Airline industry emissions are much higher than any other mode of transport. Emissions have a negative impact on global warming and climate change. Scientists warn of drought, super storm and sea level rise.

The e-plane, the six-passenger Havilland Beaver seaplane powered by an electric motor, was controlled by Greg McDougall, founder and CEO of Harbor Air. McDougall flew along the Fraser River near Vancouver International Airport in front of nearly 100 spectators.

McDougall said, “Our aim is to actually electrify all the aircraft in the fleet. There is no reason not to do it. ” said.
