Many gaming monitors now have refresh rates ranging from 120Hz to 165Hz. Some manufacturers have rolled up their sleeves to take these refresh rates even further. According to TFTCentral LG Display and AU Optronics, 480Hz LCD panel has already announced the build targets. On the other hand, there is no official production date for these panels yet. LG Display currently marks the fourth quarter of 2022 for 480 Hz monitors.
Many gamers use gaming monitors that offer refresh rates ranging from 75 Hz to 165 Hz. eSports players, of course, want to have the highest possible refresh rate. This is because having a high refresh rate and fast response time can significantly improve performance in games like Call of Duty or Fortnite where quick reactions and quick thinking are critical.
Faster displays have refresh rates of up to 360Hz, but are usually limited by the resolution or size of the screen. Most monitors with a refresh rate of 360 Hz have a screen size of 24.5 inches and a resolution of 1080p. This is because of the graphics power required to provide the faster refresh rate.
LG Display shares that 480 Hz display development will begin in 2021 and production will begin in late 2022. Little information has been released for now, but the first option will most likely have a screen size of 24.5 inches and HDR 400 support.
AU Optronics, on the other hand, states its goal of creating a 1080p display with a refresh rate of up to 480 Hz, but also a 4K display with a refresh rate of up to 240 Hz. Unfortunately, the company has not yet released any official information other than development goals.
