The next update of Samsung’s custom interface software One UI may not be called One UI 3.5 as many expect. Instead, it is stated that the new update will come with a gradual upgrade, which will be realized by adding a third number to the existing number scheme.

@SamsungRydah notes that the next version of Samsung’s custom skin will likely be called One UI 3.1. Let’s say the source of information is the update changelog of Nice Catch, the Good Lock module in the Galaxy Store. Because, in the screenshot below, we can clearly see that One UI 3.1 is mentioned under the application change log.

Besides, the Ice Universe Twitter account last week stated that the company is not working on One UI 3.5 and that the next version will be called One UI 3.1. The changelog that came out today matches this leaked information.

As for why we expect Samsung to call the new update One UI 3.5, the company has released One UI 2.0 in the past, followed by One UI 2.1. The company later released One UI 2.5. When we look at these nomenclatures, since we also know that Samsung has already released One UI 3.0 and One UI 3.1, it is quite natural to expect the new version to be called One UI 3.5. However, there is no official explanation as to why the company switched to the 3.1 number scheme instead of 3.5. This may indicate that changes will not be made large enough to allow a higher number increase in the new upgrade.

Finally, let’s also mention that Samsung will start testing One UI 4.0 on Galaxy S devices from next month.
