The US will grant “temporary protection status” to approximately 320,000 Venezuelan immigrants in the country. The statement was made by the US Department of Homeland Security.
“Minister Alejandro Mayorkas has added Venezuela to the list of countries to be awarded Temporary Protection Status for 18 months until September 2022,” the ministry said in the statement.
The statement pointed out that Venezuelans who meet the requirements of the Ministry of Internal Security and are currently in the USA can apply for this status, and said, “This decision is due to the extraordinary and temporary situation that prevents people from returning in Venezuela.”
The statement pointed out “the humanitarian crisis caused by widespread hunger and malnutrition in Venezuela, the increasing activity of non-state armed groups, and the oppression and dispersed infrastructure”.
There are approximately 320 thousand Venezuelan immigrants in the USA.
