Jarrod’s Tech has compared AMD’s new RX 6850M XT mobile flagship GPU to the NVIDIA RTX 3080 Mobile GPU. AMD’s graphics solution has unfortunately been disappointing in most games. The green team’s RTX 3080 was 10% to 20% better overall, consuming 37% less power.
Tesdollarser made on ASUS Flow Z13 2-in-1 gaming device powered by Intel’s latest Core i9-12900H processor and 16GB LPDDR5 RAM. The two discrete GPUs tested were housed in ASUS’ external GPU box known as ROG XG Mobile. These external devices house either RTX 3080 or RX 6850M XT GPUs. Self-powered GPU boxes connect to the Flow Z13 via a custom PCIe interface that runs up to current eight-lane Gen3 speeds.
The RTX 3080 version of XG Mobile, known as the 2021 ROG XG Mobile, comes with a maximum power rating of up to 150W. The one with the RX 6850M XT GPU is the 2022 model and has a higher power rating of up to 165W.
The overall performance lead was in favor of the RTX 3080 XG Mobil. If we look at the tested games; Microsoft Flight Simulator, Fortnite, Metro Exodus Enhanced Edition, Forza Horizon 5, Control, Watch Dogs Legion, God of War, Dying Light 2, Cyberpunk 2077, Assassin’s Creed Valhalla, Far Cry 6, The Witcher 3, Call of Duty Warzone and Shadow of the Tomb Raider.
NVIDIA’s GPU was faster in 11 games. AMD’s RX 6850M XT took the lead in Shadow of the Tomb Raider, COD Warzone and The Witcher 3. If we look at the overall average of games running at 1080p resolution, there is a 9% difference in favor of NVIDIA. The difference in 1440p resolution increased to 11%. When the resolution was scaled down to 4K, the average FPS difference between the RX 6850M XT and the RTX 3080 increased to 18%.
