Chinese manufacturer Hystou has launched a series of mini PCs based on Intel’s Hades Canyon platform. The Kaby Lake-G APU inside the Hystou F9 combines Intel’s 8th Gen Core technology along with AMD’s Radeon Vega M graphics.

The rectangular Hystou F9 has a size of 228.8 x 148 x 51.8mm. This mini system includes 2x HDMI ports, 2x Mini DisplayPort, 2x Gigabit Ethernet connections, 4x USB 3.0 Type-A ports, 4x USB 2.0 Type-A, a single USB 3.1 Type-C port, and 3 It has a .5mm audio jack. It also offers integrated Wi-Fi and Bluetooth features. As for internal storage, 2 x M. 2 2280 and 1 x 2.5 inch SATA SSD slots are used for PCIe 3.0 NVMe drives.

Constructed from an aluminum alloy chassis with plastic spacers, the mini PC is available with a choice of four Kaby Lake-G CPUs. The chips all run at different TDP and clock speeds, but have four cores. On the graphics side, Radeon Vega M GL GPU (24 CUs) is used, which offers similar performance to the GTX 1060. In the Vega GL option, the amount of CU drops to 20.

We can say that Kaby Lake-G architecture is a unique joint product that AMD and Intel work together in the semiconductor industry. Both companies put their competitive side aside to create a new APU with Vega RX graphics inside the Kaby Lake SoC. The chips produced are being developed to compete with NVIDIA’s first generation Pascal Max-Q graphics cards.

Windows 11 support was recently added to Kaby Lake-G, thus extending the lifespan of older generation chips. Given a historic platform like Hades Canyon and its driver challenges, it doesn’t make much sense for the Chinese manufacturer to opt for these chips.
