Apple is said to be working on a new iMac with the M3 processor, which will likely be released next year. Mark Gurman states in his latest Power On bulletin that the M1 processor has been completed with all its variants and that the company will use the M2 chipset in the Mac and iPad series going forward. It has also been shared that while Apple is expected to announce the new iMac Pro, Mac mini and new MacBook Air models, the company is working on the M3 version of the iMac.
At the moment, there is not much information about what technology the new chip will use. It’s also interesting to see that Apple started working on the M3 even before the M2 chipset had seen the light of day. The M3 chipset will be the company’s entry-level processor, potentially coming to the iMac next year.
We previously heard that the company will announce new MacBook Air and MacBook Pro models with M2 chips. The M2 Pro and M2 Max chipset will be dedicated to the 14-inch and 16-inch MacBook Pro models. For Mac Pro, dual M2 Ultra chips will be used.
Apple launched the 24-inch iMac in April last year with a brand new M1 chip, which is a leader in both performance and battery life. We can speculate that Apple will not update the 24-inch iMac with an M2 chip, but potentially switch it directly to the M3 chip next year.
