Fagradals Volcano, which has been dormant for 6 thousand years, has come into operation in Iceland. Flights in the area have been canceled.
The volcano in the Rejkyanes Peninsula started erupting ash and lava.
All flights were stopped in the city of Keflavik.
During the 3 weeks before the volcano near the capital Reykjavik took action, numerous small-scale earthquakes occurred in the area every day.
The Ministry of Emergency Situations stated that the volcano is about two and a half kilometers from the nearest road, and that a step towards the evacuation of the settlers is not considered.
It was stated that volcanic activity has not been observed in the region for about 800 years.
