This time, the scandals of Israel-based spyware developer NSO Group and Pegasus , which came to the agenda with the seizure of the devices of the European Union officials, do not end.
According to a new report published by Reuters , smartphones belonging to high-level officials of the European Union were targeted with Pegasus pest. It is known that the devices of 5 people, including two unnamed EU officials and European Justice Commissioner Didier Reynders, were seized. However, unfortunately, it is not known who uses this spyware, which cannot be sold without the approval of the Israeli government, against the targets.
In a statement after these accusations, NSO Group claimed that it was not responsible for such hacking attempts and that the attacks could not have been carried out with tools developed by NSO.
It is known that targeted attacks occurred after November, that is, after Apple filed a lawsuit against NSO Group to ban the sale of malware. As stated in the report, despite the spyware sales regulations and embargoes introduced right after the Pegasus incident escalated, the fact that the attacks on the devices of aktivisdollarserle state officials are still detected, shows that the company did not act very sensitively in this process.
While the state should defend personal rights and freedoms such as privacy and safe technology use, events such as the Hacking Team incident in the past and the Pegasus scandal recently, we see the opposite situation.
