In an article published in the journal Nature Biotechnology, the group of researchers explained that important steps have been taken in writing on DNA. It has been announced that more than 10 petabytes, or ten million gigabytes, of information is stored in a single gram. The process theoretically means that all the information stored on YouTube is stored in a single teaspoon.
Reduces the damage to the environment
Programming the DNA information storage process offers a viable alternative to traditional forms of information storage. Since it is responsible for approximately 2 percent of global carbon emissions in its study, it provides DNA-based information storage similar to the emissions emitted by global air traffic and provides more than 3 percent of global electricity consumption – a rate higher than all of the UK’s electricity consumption.
